Medical Services

The Highlands County Health Department is pleased to provide a broad range of high quality personal health services.  A variety of insurances (as well as Medicaid and Medicare) are accepted.  Uninsured clients will be served on a sliding fee scale based on income determined through financial eligibility screening. Services are not denied based on ability to pay.
Eligibility Screening For Medical Services

Adult and Child Care

Preventive care and chronic disease diagnosis and treatment for adults is provided at both sites.  Seniors are welcome!  Help with prescription drug assistance program applications is available for our patients.

Well child checkups, diagnosis and treatment of childhood illnesses, school and sports physicals are available for children.

Provides education, counseling, medical services, referrals and follow-ups that will help people plan their family size.  A variety of current methods of birth control are available to any person of childbearing age, including teens.  Coordination of tubal ligations and vasectomies are also provided.

Complete and high quality maternity care including prenatal, delivery and post partum care is provided at both sites.  Pregnancy testing is also available.  
The Sebring site provides high risk maternity care clinic for patients. The Regional Prenatal Intensive Care Center program provides staff from Orlando to see patients for medical follow-up and genetic counseling. High risk patients are scheduled on a monthly basis at the Sebring site by referral from physicians/providers.

Breast & Cervical

Breast and cervical cancer screening exams, mammograms and pap smears are provided to uninsured and underinsured women ages 50 to 64 years.  Diagnostic tests are provided as necessary.

Immunizations that protect against childhood diseases and are required for school entry are provided.  In addition, vaccines are available for adults.  Flu and pneumonia shots are given seasonally as available.  Please call the number listed for an appointment or additional information.  Travel immunizations are provided at the Sebring site.

TB

School Health

The Highlands County Health Department, in partnership with the School Board of Highlands County, promotes and protects the health of the community’s schools children. Each public school has a health aide or licensed practical nurse that staffs the school health room on a full time basis. School nurses supervise these staff and have a responsibility for several schools. The School Health Program provides the following services:

Management of children with chronic diseases
Screenings for hearing, vision and scoliosis

School Clinic Sites:
